Job Description

As the Director of Development and Communications, you will be active and accountable in the areas of development, communications and organizational leadership and strategy. The position reports to Unity’s Executive Director. At this moment, this position will be managing two direct reports.
Development: provide vision and strategic leadership and take accountability for strategies that identify, cultivate, and gain or enhance the interest and involvement of prospective funders through a variety of revenue streams.  
Communications : provide vision and strategic leadership and take accountability for developing, implementing, and evaluating on-brand marketing and communications for all stakeholders.
Leadership: supervise and coach your direct reports and provide leadership support to the entire team alongside the Executive Director and National Programs Director.
Partnerships: sustain, steward and grow current business and community partnerships for Unity on a local and national level and ensure the business objectives of both partners are successfully executed. 
 

Requirements:

Communication Skills
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Knowledge of various communication disciplines, techniques, best practices, and planning methods
  • Experience in managing and conducting fundraising communication and marketing programs, including strategic planning
  • Experience implementing and producing impactful marketing and communication materials, such as newsletters, social media, web, flyers, videos, and annual reports

  • Ability to be accountable, and keep others accountable to see projects, programs and efforts through to completion.

The successful candidate will have an innovative, entrepreneurial and caring spirit and a passion for the Unity Charity mission.  A post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant field will be considered a strong asset, along with previous development and communications experience. A knowledge of Hip Hop culture and its related art forms will be considered an asset.  We are seeking someone with a minimum of 6-8 years related experience, including broad experience working with multiple stakeholders preferably in the charitable or not-for-profit sector. We are looking for an accountable team player who is results-oriented and driven to improve the lives of youth in the community.  

You are a marketer, strategist, and a confident leader with a wide professional network as well as a combination of ambition, insight, diligence, and creativity that materializes opportunities.  An effective relationship builder and team leader, you have a successful track record in fundraising and management. You have experience achieving financial targets and managing a budget and are skilled at continuously searching for funding prospects and generating funding. Experience running fundraising and donor stewardship events and campaigns is considered a strong asset.
