B.Riley Farber Executive Search is partnering with The Empire Club of Canada (www.empireclubofcanada.com) for the search of its first CEO.  This is a newly created role that has emerged as the Club evolves and expands its strategy and reach.

About the Club:
The Empire Club provides a forum for speakers to engage, educate and advance dialogue on issues of importance to Canadians. With a rich heritage of 120 years, The Empire Club is at the intersection of political, business and cultural communities. The CEO will drive the evolution of the organization to fulfill its mandate to elevate the conversations that matter to Canadian society. 

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will be an effective leader, working to create the long-term vision and strategy of the Club, as well as driving excellence through management and execution across the various functions.

This is an exciting time in the evolution of The Empire Club as they embark on a journey of transformation and innovation. The Board will continue to be focused on governance whilst the CEO will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s operations and providing strategic guidance to support its growth and transformation objectives.

The CEO will spearhead the existing successful events throughout the year as well as manage the marketing and operations team.  S/he will collaborate cross-functionally to drive excellence, improve processes, optimize systems adding value as a business partner. The CEO will bring leadership and strategy experience backed by an enhanced understanding of current politics, major Canadian industries, academic institutions, as well as societal and cultural issues. 

Ways in which you will add value and directly contribute are:
  • Provide day-to-day Club and operations leadership through strategy creation.
  • Manage a 3-person team providing coaching and mentoring, fostering a high-performance culture promoting continuous learning and development.
  • Collaborate with the Board to set direction and execute the organization’s short and long-term business and financial strategy.
  • As a leader, being abreast of current affairs, you will anticipate and drive opportunities and topics of interest to Canadians through events. 
  • Build connections with various communities and political figures across Canada and create dialogue and partnerships that will feed into event creation and strong networks.
  • Spearhead and source significant sponsorships required to support successful events.
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes aligning with the organization’s objectives, further developing a finance and governance structure.
  • Deepen relationships with key stakeholders, internal and external, including major sponsors, government bodies, the diplomatic corps, and other stakeholders. 

Qualifications in order to be considered:
  • Exceptional leadership experience, strategic vision and experience successfully implementing change. Transformative mindset to bring new and innovative ideas to the Club.
  • Experience securing funding, bringing a deep network and business development mindset to secure sponsors, ensuring sustainable growth.
  • Experience engaging with political, governmental offices and public policy is a strong preference, as is the ability to engage with private industry executives.
  • Experience or knowledge of the events industry preferred, understanding of media and high-profile decision makers. 
  • Exceptional people leadership capabilities, ability to influence and collaborate at all levels. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, possessing executive presence; politically savvy with strong business acumen. 
  • Excellent EQ with an understanding of how to communicate to the BOD, work with new and experienced members and manage a large group of influential individuals.
  • Marketing, PR and Communications experience will be an asset.
  • Bilingualism, an asset
