Chief Financial Officer

Our client is one of the fastest growing franchise model businesses in Canada. With many locations already in operation, in addition to recent M&A activity and a US focused expansion strategy, the future of this innovative, industry disrupting business is very bright. In order to facilitate continued and structured growth, there is a need to hire the company’s first CFO. The CFO will be a key member of the executive leadership team, working with the 3 owners and company founders.

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for overseeing all finance and accounting aspects of the company's operations and providing strategic financial guidance to support growth objectives. You will lead and expand the existing finance team and collaborate cross-functionally to drive financial performance, improve processes, optimize data and systems. You will have a heavy focus on Corporate Development, through identification, negotiation, and effective integration of acquisition targets.  And you will bring an enhanced understanding of PE investment operations and will have ideally worked in a senior finance role for a PE portfolio company.

Ways in which you will add-value and directly contribute include:
  • Providing day-to-day financial operations leadership.
  • Manage a team providing coaching and mentoring, fostering a high-performance culture promoting continuous learning and career development.
  • Collaborate with executive and senior leadership teams to develop and execute the company’s short and long-term business and financial strategy, including M&A, integrations and change management initiatives.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial and management reporting with insights and guidance to support departmental decision making.
  • Conduct a review of all internal IT systems and lead the company through an ERP implementation.
  • Develop a finance and governance structure that will allow the company to respond quickly to changing government legislation, business environments, environmental demands, and franchise network challenges.
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes aligning with the company’s objectives.
  • Manage corporate tax planning and reporting, cash-flow and treasury strategies and processes.
  • Deepen relationships with financial institutions, auditors and other stakeholders.

Qualifications in order to be considered:
  • CPA designation is highly desired and coupled with a Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration or related. An MBA would be advantageous.
  • 10+ years progressive track record with proven experience as a CFO/VP Finance.
  • Mid-sized, owner managed company experience coupled with larger company best practices expertise preferred.
  • Experience raising capital and engaging in end-to-end M&A activity is required.
  • Experience as the head of a finance function, significantly growing a business, and then ideally seeing it through a successful exit.
  • Large scale business transformation experience is required.
  • Franchise business experience would be an asset.
