The world continues to heat up; greenhouse gas emissions have continued to increase; and carbon emissions from fossil fuels continue to hit record highs. Our client continues to make environmental sustainability a key priority for their organization. The company has directed its efforts towards advancing and achieving its sustainability and environmental objectives. With a commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, fostering effective recycling practices, and minimizing waste generation, the company is actively pursuing environmentally conscious initiatives. They are looking for a Director, Environmental Sustainability to play a pivotal leadership role in the company's global sustainability endeavors, concentrating on evaluating the environmental and social implications throughout the supply chain, spanning from raw material acquisition and sourcing, to production, storage, delivery, and transportation/logistics.

The Director, Environmental Sustainability, will establish environmental strategies to deal with all aspects of the business. You will identify and prioritize opportunities and translate them into implementable strategies. Your systematic thinking will help you develop and deliver a tactical roadmap. You will lead cross-functional partners in creating an environmental sustainability program that can be rolled-out throughout the organization.

This position will emphasize sustainability in relation to certifications for environmental management systems and compliance, while also championing impactful strategies for decarbonization, along with some additional key elements:
  • Sustainability & Environment Oversight: Serve as the cornerstone for global sustainability and environmental efforts, with a specific focus on optimizing the supply chain and scientific practices to minimize carbon emissions while enhancing recycling and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Data & Analytics: “What gets measured, gets managed”. Build reporting and data metrics to steer stakeholders to issues and remedies in environmental sustainability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement and establish best practices guideline to be rolled-out to the organization.
  • Documentation and Controls: Ensure the ongoing design, execution, and effectiveness of all controls (including SOx and ESG requirements) within the role's span of influence are adhered to
  • Building: Establish a Sustainability & Environment Committee (with Pillar-specific ambassadors) who will survey key operations and ensure departments are aligned with the Company’s expectations
  • Media: Participate in marketing, public campaign releases, and speaking engagements for global events and initiatives. Be the face of environmental sustainability for the company
  • Collaboration: Build and support relationships with cross functional teams, both with internal teams and external partners and suppliers
 
To be considered for this role, you will possess the following
  • Lead a team of sustainability enthusiasts while demonstrating an infectious passion, effort, and commitment to environmental sustainability
  • Experience in a sustainability/environmental leadership capacity combined with a background in engineering and/or technical projects in R&D, SCM
  • Experience in the product industry; particularly within CPG, manufacturing, retail, ecommerce, or distribution
  • Experience with mid-to-large-sized global companies is preferred
  • Detail-oriented and proactive self-starter, with a strong commitment to excellence, while being a team player who can work successfully across the organization
  • Strong ability to communicate technical information in a clear and understandable manner for individuals at all levels
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines, with excellent organization and priority-setting skills
